Alpine meets modern

The Gstaad-Eggli cable car leads from the edge of the village of Gstaad to the Eggli skiing and hiking area. The new gondola lift, which will be completed in 2019, skilfully combines contemporary architecture with the alpine context.

The symmetrically designed roof immediately catches the eye. It takes up the shape of the mountain and is reminiscent of crane wings – a symbolic allusion to the natural experience on the Eggli. The entire building is clad in a veil of wooden slats: Aligned at different angles, they join to form a dynamic play of waves that offers glimpses of the generous glazing behind and emphasises the permeability of the building.

Inside the building, the NH team was allowed to plan, manufacture and deliver the timber supporting structures including GSA-Ttechnology. The timber construction fits perfectly into the light-flooded rooms in alpine chic style.
