Council of States wants more wood for infrastructure

The Council of States wants more CO2-saving materials to be used for infrastructure buildings instead of reinforced concrete. It adopted a motion by Jakob Stark (SVP/TG) by 35 votes to 0, which focuses on wood as a material.

Concrete is a fascinating building material. It will continue to be of great importance in the future. Its disadvantage is its broad CO2 footprint, which is why it can be supplemented or perhaps even replaced by wood materials in suitable areas. Mr. Stark, President of Lignum Holzwirtschaft, could imagine that, for example, wood-concrete hybrid construction could gain significant importance in the future by optimally combining the properties of the two building materials.
